Painted Falconry Hoods

By John Mease and Carl Bass

Carl and John have known each other for many years through their shared interest in falconry and going to the Game Fairs and Falconers Shows together to display and sell their work. This is where they spotted a hole in the market for collectable hoods and decided to band together.

The hoods are all painstakingly hand made by John (the one seen to the left is a Dutch Design) who puts great detail into them right down to ornate silver and stone beads and feather plume as the topknot of the hood. The hood is then sent to Carl, where he will paint tiny scenes or, like above, portraits of birds etc. What he paints depends on whether the hood has been commissioned or if hes just painting it for general sale.
